Description:
Ethephon is a kind of plant growth regulator with systemic properties. It can be used in many pla
nt species, chemical concentration, and time of application. Ethephon regulates phases of plant
growth and development by application to various growth sites. It is currently registered in the U.
S. for use on apples, barley, blackberries, bromeliads, cantaloupes, cherries, coffee, cotton, cuc
umbers, grapes, guava, macadamia nuts, ornamentals, peppers, pineapples, rye, squash, sugar
cane, tobacco, tomatoes, walnuts, wheat, etc. Ethephon's mode of action acts via liberation of et
hylene, which is absorbed by the plant and interferes in the growth process. It is also used in the acceleration of ripening of fruits and vegetables.
Ethephon comes in RTU (ready-to-use), emulsifiable concentrate and aqueous solution formulati
ons. It may also be used in combination with Terpal (with mepiquat-chloride) and Terpal C (chlorm
equat-chloride).

To promote pre-harvest ripening in apples, currants, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, more
llo cherries, citrus fruit, figs, tomatoes, sugar beet and fodder beet seed crops, coffee, capsicums,
etc.; to accelerate post-harvest ripening in bananas, mangoes, and citrus fruit; to facilitate harves
ting by loosening of the fruit in currants, gooseberries, cherries, and apples; to increase flower bu
d development in young apple trees; to prevent lodging in cereals, maize, and flax; to induce flow
ering of Bromeliads; to stimulate lateral branching in azaleas, geraniums, and roses; to shorten th
e stem length in forced daffodils; to induce flowering and regulate ripening in pineapples; to accel
erate boll opening in cotton; to modify sex expression in cucumbers and squash; to increase fruit
setting and yield in cucumbers; to improve the sturdiness of onion seed crops; to hasten the yello
wing of mature tobacco leaves; to stimulate latex flow in rubber trees, and resin flow in pine trees;
to stimulate early uniform hull split in walnuts; etc. Max. application rate per season 2.18 kg/ha for
cotton, 0.72 kg/ha for cereals, 1.44 kg/ha for fruit.
